Pronghorn

Pronghorn

The pronghorn (Antilocapra americana) in Yellowstone, which were one of the few populations that was not exterminated or decimated by the early twentieth century, became the source for re-establishing or supplementing pronghorn populations in several states. The Yellowstone population expresses much of the genetic variation that was formerly widespread in the species, but is no longer present elsewhere. It also retains one of only two pronghorn migrations remaining in the Greater Yellowstone region and is an integral part of its predator–prey ecosystem.
